How we achieve longlasting change within our community

Foundation for Community Development Uganda is committed to creating opportunities for those in need. We believe in the power of education and skill-building to transform lives. Our team is dedicated to providing essential support and guidance to ensure that every child and teenage mother has the chance to thrive. By offering access to quality education and vocational training, we are breaking barriers and fostering a brighter tomorrow for the next generation.

KATHRIN TEENAGE MOTHER SKILL CENTER

We offer vocational training for teenage mothers in our very own Kathrin Teenage Mother Skill Center in Kasangati. It includes a sewing workshop, a bakery and a hair-salon. In the sewing workshop, the trainees learn how to handle different textiles and how to turn them into clothing, bags or various other things. A big part of school uniforms and equipment that are used in all of our institutions are made in that workshop. Additionally, the bakery and the hair-salon allow the trainees to gain the experience of leading and working in an independent small business and therefore sets them up for possible independent business ventures in the future. All of our vocational training is aimed at setting the trainees up for independence in their respective lifes which is why we also offer career planning and counseling in order to help them realize their vision for their future.

If you're situated in the Kasangati area and are interested in participating in our teenage mother programs, write an e-mail to jossalijoseph@gmail.com and explain your motivation and experience, we'll be glad to get in touch with you!

GRANNY SIGRID KINDERGARTEN & PRIMARY

At Granny Sigrid Kindergarten & Primary in Kasangati, we educate over 150 students from Baby Class up unto Primary 4, although we're planning to go up to Primary 7 in the next three years. All of our 10 teachers are highly skilled and motivated to bring out the best in each and every one of our students. We provide a boarding service as well as school buses to and from school. Our colorful and open compound allows for the students to move freely and express themselves creatively during break times but stay focused and engaged during lessons. The 9 staff members of our school provide a hearty meal at lunchtime and flawless functioning and administration of the school throughout the year. Through student-focused education we set our students up for success in their academic careers and lifes. A fundamental part of our philosophy is offering free scholarships for children in need, as we believe that each and every child should have access to quality education.

ST. EDWARD GRANNY PRIMARY

St. Edward Granny Primary School in Nkokonjeru, Central Uganda, was the first school of this organisation. With now over 500 students from Primary 1 to Primary 7, it has made a significant impact on education in the rural region around Nkokonjeru. Like our other school in Kasangati, it also offers a boarding section. Provision of food is partially covered by the two farms that belong to the school; the earnings from those two farms also help to cover school fees for families struggling to make ends meet. Thereby, we are able to strive towards our goal of providing education to every child, regardless of their financial situation, as we believe education is the cornerstone to creating longlasting change within our communities.

ST. EDWARD HEALTH CENTER

The St. Edward Health Center in Nkokonjeru, Central Uganda, is adjacent to our St. Edward Granny Primary School and it's purpose is twofold. Firstly, this clinic provides all of our students with good medical care in case of unease, sickness or injury. Secondly, it permits the rural community around Nkokonjeru to have quick access to first aid and a few basic medical procedures, such as birth assistance and disease treatment. This clinic constitutes a vital part of our community development in and around Nkokonjeru and enables us to not only guarantee our students mental but also their physical health.

ST. EDWARD GRANNY KINDERGARTEN

Situated next to St. Edward Granny Primary School in Nkokonjeru, Central Uganda, St. Edward Granny Kindergarten extends our educational offer to Baby, Middle and Top Class. Thereby we enable children to go to one facility for 10 years and get a full Kindergarten and Primary Education with us. Through our strong and all-around educational offer in Nkokonjeru we manage to convince many families to entrust us with their children's education and can therefore plant a seed in the community for it to grow and flourish.

WATER FOR AFRICA

The Water for Africa project consisted of building a well and an irrigation system in Nkokonjeru, Central Uganda, with the goal of providing crucial infrastructure to the village community and raise their standard of living. Furthermore, our irrigation system enabled the local farmers to develop their agricultural practices and improve their monthly harvest.

Roses

The Roses project intended to give clarification to young women about their menstrual cycles and assist them with our self-made menstrual kits. Those kits were made in our own teenage mother tailoring workshop what allowed us to lower the prices for the menstrual kits extensively and therefore facilitate access for young and financially less stable women and girls. Combined with our information and clarification about the menstrual cycle, we improved the situation for many young women and girls in rural communities in regards to the handling of their menstrual cycle.

Volunteering Programs

Our cooperation with Rainbow Garden Village enables us to welcome volunteers into our organisation, where they can contribute to the expansion of our institutions and therefore do their part in the development of our communities. As a volunteer, you can bring in your own skills and expertise in different areas and work to your strengths. Various parts of our organisation haven been realized with the help of volunteers and they remain an important part to the realization of our vision.
